Oppo: Pete Buttigieg
Pete joined the already crowded race in April. Not much was known about him other than he was a mayor of the 4th largest city in Indiana, South Bend, and that he dropped out of the DNC Chair race in 2017.
Here is just a few things that have come up so far since it is mid-May and he hasn't posted a issues page on his website yet.
GENTRIFICATION
Two years ago today, Mayor Pete ordered South Bend police to bulldoze a homeless encampment.— Samuel D. Finkelstein II (@CANCEL_SAM) December 5, 2019
This is what Pete’s leadership looks like. He speaks eight languages, and clearly empathy isn’t one of them.pic.twitter.com/DjXcM3thjd
The main thing that will always hit a mayor especially is how they dealt with gentrification in their city. Buttigieg supporters will say he did the right thing by going after the abandoned homes but his critics will point out where those homes were and that people could have moved in and fixed them up.
"But the story of what happened in between — of an ambitious white leader literally plowing ahead before addressing concerns in the community of color — is not the story Buttigieg, 37, tells."
LGBTQIA ISSUES
Being an openly gay politician, one would think Mayor Pete would be fairly progressive on LGBTQIA issues (he has even declared his nemesis as Mike Pence who Pete says holds a a "social extremist ideology" attacking gay rights) but there is a group on the left that will never forgive him for the stance he took on Chelsea Manning when Obama commuted her sentence her.
"I certainly agree that we've learned things about abuses and that one way or another that needed to come out," Buttigieg said. "But in my view, the way for that to come out is through Congressional oversight, not through a breach of classified information."
PRO-ISRAEL
He believes Israel is a good role model on how to handle security threats and is not happy with the trend of Democrats not supporting Israel.
POLICE REFORM
CAPITALISM
"If you want to see what happens when you have capitalism without democracy, you can see it very clearly in Russia." - Buttigieg
HEALTH CARE
Buttigieg is right there with all the other moderate candidates talking of a public option. In fact, he just doesn't get why there shouldn't be a public option.
COLLEGE
Pete isn't for those fancy "free college" plan. He wants to boost Pell Grants and loan forgiveness instead.
WOMEN'S ISSUES

RACE RELATIONS (BEYOND GENTRIFICATION)
A black 16-year-old boy from South Bend was found hanged in 2011. Officials called it suicide.— Jonathan Larsen (@jtlarsen) May 23, 2019
His mother called it murder.
She asked Mayor @PeteButtigieg for help. He told her to call the office, and then never called back.

The woman in the photo reached out to me very confused. One story here: https://t.co/H217w3QXdw
Here’s @PeteButtigieg speaking at a Tea Party event during Obama’s presidency and praising them for their concerns about the "direction" of the country. The Tea Party is the RACIST movement that rose up after Obama was elected.— Ryan Knight 🗽 (@ProudResister) November 19, 2019

CLIMATE
If the climate is your number one priority and you're supporting Pete Buttigieg, knock that shit off.— beth, a left leaning feed (@bourgeoisalien) November 20, 2019
Seriously.
Knock that shit off right now.

LIVING WAGE
I enjoyed @NathanJRobinson's epic takedown of @PeteButtigieg's book, which rightly ridicules this odd passage where Buttigieg describes shrugging off protesters demanding a living wage for campus workers. One thing, though: Buttigieg's story is wrong. https://t.co/g3MgEZOWj6 pic.twitter.com/D12fH7Lgor— Benjamin McKean (@BLMcKean) March 30, 2019
TIME AT McKINSEY
Here's a short video clip from 2010 of Pete describing his time w/ Secretary of Defense and McKinsey. I read quite a bit into this, but not gonna say what. not sure if this is worth tucking in your spreadsheet https://t.co/6638DVz94x— Stack of Yellow Vests (@DannyKnapp5) December 9, 2019

Here is a thread on Mayo Pete and his lack of transparency...feeding from his donors that cannot be easily found because the records were destroyed 🙄 to how at least one that could be found has a connection into getting the Black police chief ousted for the white dude.

BREAKING: As a former corporate exec who worked with McKinsey, I may be able to shed light on one of @petebuttigieg’s unnamed McKinsey clients, and why it’s very significant in this campaign.— Wendell Potter (@wendellpotter) December 9, 2019
(Note: I have not endorsed anyone in this race, nor do I intend to) 1/13
